Boozybear Special IX

Servus, hi and welcome to the last post of our boozybear special feature!

Claudia here with this final project featuring Glenda - the designer and owner of the boozybear etsy shop  - and her fab steampunk chipboard pieces by showing steampunk/industrial style projects done by my wonderful DT - each using the same boozybear parts but in totally different projects and ways of using them.

So throughout the last months you have been provided with extra project posts over here and I have been so happy to have the opportunity to not only show some of Glenda's amazing chipboard designs but also let my DT each have the stage to herself. (to make it easier for you to compare the projects there's a list of previously posted boozybear projects with links to every new project post...see below)
I find the idea thrilling to see how differently the same chipboard pieces can be approached. I hope you do too. ;)

*Here's the link list to previous boozybear projects done by the DT:

Boozybear Special I
Boozybear Special II
Boozybear Special III
Boozybear Special IV
Boozybear Special V
Boozybear Special VI
Boozybear Special VII
Boozybear Special VIII

So today it is my turn to share some boozybear inspiration - so here we go!

As you can see I didn't use the largest clockface pieces in the back, but the others immediately sparked the idea of a mechanical wind up heart with wings and a propeller.

The balsa wood heart and the old picture stand had been waiting in my stash quite a long time to be used....now was the time!

I started with adding a base coat of Raw Umber DecoArt Student Acrylic paint to the heart and painted the wings, key and propeller with DecoArt Extreme Sheen "Vintage Brass" and "Bronze".

Once dry I created a feather-y texture on the wings using DecoArt media Heavy Gel Medium and let it air dry.

I also used the Heavy Gel Medium to adhere the clock face and gears to the heart.

This is how the texture from the Heavy Gel Medium looked on the finished project:

While the assembled heart was set aside to dry I painted a quick coat of DecoArt matte Decou-Page to the stand to provide more tooth for some paint to adhere.

Once the Heavy Gel Medium on the wings had dried I applied some DecoArt Sparkling Turquoise Metallic Lustre to the raised areas using my fingertip.

The steampunk heart got a coat of Bronze Extreme Sheen that I stippled onto and inbetween the glued on pieces and the heart with an old and worn bristle brush.

Once the bronze paint was dry, I stippled on some DecoArt media Carbon Black fluid acrylic paint here and there.

I did the same with Quinacridone Gold...

...and to finish my steampunk parts off, I dry brushed them with a mix of Titan Buff and Prussian Blue Hue fluid acrylics.

The wire stand was treated pretty much the same...only that I started with the Metallic Lustre as a base coat instead of the Extreme Sheen.

I felt the wings and heart still looked too "clean" - so I added some white DecoArt media Crackle Paint to the wings with a palette knife...

...and sprinkles of Carbon Black, Turquoise and White Shimmer Mister to the heart:

The little propeller was fixed to the bottom of the heart using a round toothpick. I hand drilled the hole and inserted the toothpick with some glue.

Then it was time to assemble my flying wind up steampunk heart with matte Decou-Page.

The stand and the propeller came last.

Done!

Steampunk and hearts always go together so well, don't they?
I hope you've enjoyed the read and recommend you check out Glenda's wonderful range of chipboard pieces over at her boozybear etsy store

SASPC January Challenge - Mid Month Reminder

Hi, servus and welcome to our mid month reminder on our actual January challenge! Team B are sharing their projects with you today and if you haven't already checked out the makes of Team A, I highly recommend you do so right after reading this post (simply click on the "actual challenge" badge on top of our side bar to get to the opening post of our actual challenge). And of course I hope you will play along with us this month too.  The inLinkz collection to enter your makes into is waiting for you right at the bottom of this post. ;)

Our January theme is

Anything Goes - Steampunk/Industrial

and the challenge is open until the end of the month as usual. There will - as always - be two prizes for two lucky winners (who will be picked among all proper entries - so, please, check out our challenge rules). There has been an update on our rules concerning entering videos...but nothing else has changed so far. For example, we still have our same two fabulous prize sponsors, DecoArt media and boozybear chipboard pieces, without whom our challenge blog would not be imaginable. Thank you both so much for being with us for another year! xxx

is kicking off the second round of inspirational makes
with this awesomely textured canvas.
She has used aluminium foil to create the amazing background!
And I love the crackling on the new year! ;)

has used a most adorable photograph of her dog, Filou, to create this cool
mixed media piece.
It seems Filou loves to inspect Kerstin's laptop very closely,
when she leaves it open on the sofa. ;)

"Filou - Home Alone"

says

"Have you ever thought about time travel? If you could, would you try it - where and when would you go? These are the ideas I was thinking about while I worked on my "Time Traveler" canvas."

"Look around you for inspiration, it can be found anywhere! I was inspired by the coffee I was drinking and some clothing I was wearing when I chose my colors."

and I
- Claudia -

had a playful time at my (still not tidied up) studio desk
and created this tag:

I just love these three guys and had to use some of my newly bought stuff ;)

***

I am sure many of you have got cool new craft items for Christmas too. I can't wait to see what you create with them! So I hope you will play along with us soon!

On the 23rd there will be our last boozybear feature post, sharing my project created with some of Glenda's amazing chipboard pieces! Don't miss that!

In the meantime:
hugs and happy crafting!

Top 5 and Prize Winners - Winter Special Challenge Nov/Dec 2017

Hi, servus and welcome to the announcement of our Top 5 and prize winners from the winter special challenge, dear steampunk and industrial style friends!

As the winter special was a two-months long challenge, I decided to add a little surprise prize to the usual two give-aways (being sponsored as always by DecoArt media and boozybear)...it's just a small bundle of stuff I put together, but I wanted to personally share a little love and it is also meant as a huge THANK YOU in return for all the amazing entries you all have been sharing with me and my team during the last year! By doing so you make me a very happy and proud challenge blog owner, you know? XXX

Don't forget to return on the 15th, as Team B will be sharing their makes with you then! And of course the actual January challenge is open and waits for your entries! We are back to normal swing which means: it is open until the end of the month and the usual challenge rules apply.

Please note: I had to do a little update on the rules which means I've added the info that we will not be accepting whole video tutorial entries. But short two-minute long videos only showing the finished project (for example if it has moving parts or something like that that is worth being shown) are welcome! But honestly we prefer still images linked to our collections - be it from your blogs, pinterest, instagram or facebook accounts. As long as we do not necessarily have to have an account there to be able to comment on your entries, everything's fine. Thank you for your understanding!

But now on to our Top 5! As always we've had the most amazing creations being entered to our challenge and I have been - once more - stunned by your imagination and creativity! So much inspiration, so much to admire and explore! Thank you all so much for playing along and sharing your fantastic art! To me ALL entries are winning projects as I love each and every one. But I know that many of you love the contest idea behind challenges as it adds to the fun...so "Top 5" there have to be and pick we must (which is always a hard job. I am glad that at least random.org does the picking for me when it comes to the prizes...phew!...I simply couldn't decide if and which makes would "deserve" a prize more than others...).

....aaand the
Top 5
this time are...

with her amazing "dieselpunk" project

fantastic "book of mystery"

who created this amazing notebook

with her stunning mixed media tag

and

who simply charmed us all with her adorable steampunk christmas tree project

***

Huge congrats and thank you very much for playing along, ladies! Well done! Please, feel free to grab the Top5 badge for display on your blogs!

***

And now on to our prize winners - picked randomly among all proper entries.
Please, note, that there are four weeks time from the day of the announcement to claim your prizes! Just contact me via the email address given in the side bar. DecoArt prize winners, please, also add a phone number to your shipping info as DecoArt will only ship when they have a number to call in case there's some issues with shipping.

Random.org picked the entries...

#5 - julD

as our
DecoArt media prize winner!

***

#24 - Turwen

as our

boozybear steampunk chipboard prize winner

***

and my special little
surprise prize package
(donated by myself)

goes to

#9 - Irena

***

Yay! Congrats on your prize wins, ladies! I am awaiting your emails with shipping infos (and, please, don't write to me in Cyrillic/Russian as I can't read it and do not speak any Russian at all. Sorry. ;)

***

With our Top 5 and winners being announced I am almost done for now. Just a short reminder on our Team B makes, which will be shared on here in two days! Our January challenge  is awaiting your entries....and there's one more boozybear special inspirational project waiting for you, which will go live on the 23rd (yes...those who've followed our boozybear special feature will have noticed that it is my project that is still missing ;) ). So stay tuned!

I hope to see you play along with us soon!
Hugs and happy crafting!

Boozybear Special - Part VIII

Hi, servus and welcome to part VIII of our boozybear sponsor special feature!

We're still not done with featuring Glenda - the designer and owner of the boozybear etsy shop  - and her fab steampunk chipboard pieces by showing steampunk/industrial style projects done by my wonderful DT - each using the same boozybear parts but in totally different projects and ways of using them.

Only two more projects to go - as Brigitte's and mine are still missing.

So today it's time for Brigitte to share her boozybear project with you.  And believe me - this really makes me want to alter a brush too now! ;) Enjoy!

***

Colors of time/
Couleurs du temps

Altered paintbrush / Pinceau altéré

Brigitte started with priming a paintbrush...

...with white DecoArt media Gesso. Then she added DecoArt media fluid acrylic paints to create a kind of patina look.

The boozybear cogs, gears and other steampunk chippies were "rusted" with brown, violet, orange and blue paint...

...and then glued onto the brush:

The top of the brush was given a dreamy face cast from a self made mould
and painted with the same colours.

As the chipboard cogs and gears are a bit flexible,
they could easily be attached to the handle of the brush
to create a kind of relief effect.

Et voilá!

***

So cool! I HAVE TO try this too! Your altered paintbrush is just amazing, Brigitte! Thanks so much for the fantastic inspiration! XXX

***

Our actual January challenge is still open until the end of the month and before we will be sharing the makes of Team B on the 15th, we will also announce the winners and Top 5 of our winter special challenge next week. So stay tuned! And of course we hope to see you play along with us soon (maybe we will see some altered brushes being entered too? Who knows.... ;)

Hugs and happy crafting!

SASPC January 2018 Challenge - Part One

Servus, hi and welcome to our first challenge in 2018, dear mixed media steampunk and industrial style friends!
I hope you've all enjoyed lovely holidays and that you are - like me - looking forward to another year filled with inspiration and artful joy! I can't wait to see where 2018 will take you and your creativity ('cos in the end it is all about the creative journey, isn't it?).

So let's start with our first challenge of the year - it is - as usual - an

Anything Goes - Steampunk/Industrial

themed challenge and all kinds of projects (except digitally created ones) are welcome! So show us your tags, cards, art journal pages, canvases, altered objects, drawings, paintings, sketches....whatever you're up to as long as it fits our challenge themes steampunk or industrial.

But before I share with you the makes of my wonderful ladies from Team A, I would like to thank all our players who joined in our challenges during the last year and have been constantly and truly sharing their creativity with us by doing so! Running this challenge blog is such a rewarding thing to do - you all inspire me and the team, and even if I haven't commented on your projects in person, I promise, I have seen them all and enjoyed what I saw! So, please, keep that good stuff coming! ;)

And our generous and wonderful prize sponsors DecoArt media and boozybear will be with us again! Yay! Thank you so much! xxx

Proud and happy to be

The three (!) prize winners (I have thrown a little prize into the pot myself for the winter special challenge) and Top 5 from the winter special challenge will be announced on Saturday, 13. January. Shortly after that Team B will be sharing their makes with you - on the 15th as usual. So stay tuned! The January challenge will be open until the end of this month (which means we're back to our usual schedule of monthly challenges).

But now on to the first bundle of inspirational makes for 2018! Enjoy!

has altered a wooden 3D puzzle that she fell in love with
and turned it into treasure:

It's a mechanical box and Alexa managed to alter it with the mechanics still working!
I love how worn and weathered it looks! She has done such an amazing job using DecoArt media products and her imagination, hasn't she?

is wishing everyone a wonderful and happy new year, filled with luck and joy!
To mark the start of the new year, she has created this amazing perpetual calendar
in steampunk style! Wow!

I love the metal look and the amazing textures she has created!

found an old watercolour box at a flea market and upcycled it so beautifully!

And of course it is beautiful on the inside too:

is still in winter mood and has created a frame with a glittering deer head
surrounded by steampunk snowflakes
("but without whites")

I love the gold and metal against the contrasting blue!
And the glitter makes for such an eye-catcher, doesn't it?

Note to self: I should be more daring and try to use glitter too (honestly I always wrestle with glitter as I still find traces of it days after I've used it everywhere....(on my husband's face for example)....lol). But the look is always stunning (not my husband's look....the look of the projects of course).

***

Well....that's a great start into the new year, isn't it? I hope to see you play along with us soon!

Hugs and happy crafting!
